Getting Your RSG in Victoria
What is an RSG course?
The training, Responsible Service of Gambling (RSG), is necessary for those employed in the gambling industry of Victoria, along with a valid gaming license. Staff and employees who perform gaming responsibilities are required by law to obtain an RSG Certificate. Acquisition of such certificate was mandated by the Australian government as of October 1, 2012.
Several regulations from the Government were put into place to ensure that all liquor and gambling legislations in Victoria are executed. These regulations are supervised by an independent authority, the Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation (VCGLR). VCGLR’s primary role is to deal with problem gambling, thus, having a mission of minimizing all incidents and harm related to gambling.
Several changes regarding how gambling legislations function in Victoria are planned to take place this year. A new authorized judicial shall be the one to manage, conduct and commission research, problem gambling services, community education and awareness campaigns, provide information about gambling legislations and licence approval processes. As of February 2012, Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation (VCGLR) is the new body in charge of gambling and alcohol regulations.

Where and how can I complete the training for an RSG in Victoria?

You can obtain RSG training from a Registered Training Organization (RTO) that is approved by the Australian government licensing authority, which is the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation (OLGR), to provide the RSG training. After completing the course, the training service provider issues you a certificate as proof of course completion. Only certificates issued by the OLGR RTO are accepted in gambling venues.
Who must complete the course and obtain an RSG Victoria Certificate?
Any person who works in a venue engaged in the supply and service of gambling must have an RSG Victoria certificate, such as licensees, nominees, managers, gaming attendants and floor staff.
How long will the course take?
RSG course takes around 4-5 hours when taken in person or face-to-face. RTOs offer the course either in person as a group or online or both. Taking the course online allows the students to finish the course at their own pace.
How much do I have to pay for the RSG in Victoria?
The RSG course costs $45. RSG online cost includes phone and email support.
How will I receive my certificate?
After completing the RSG course, you will receive two types of certificates: an RSG certificate approved by the OLGR and a nationally-recognized SITHGAM006A Provide Responsible Gambling Services Statement of Attainment. You can download and print these certificates as soon as you successfully complete the online training for the RSG course.
